Torbant is a traditional Welsh farmhouse over 300 years old, which has been lovingly restored to give modern day comforts. It's just a few miles from the coast at Trefin and the costal path or 10 minutes by car to St David's. The 3-star bed and breakfast accommodation provides three rooms, all en-suite - two of which can be twin, double or family rooms - and the third is a double room. There is a guest's lounge and a utility room for laundry or picnic preparation. Outside, the garden surrounds the house and has seats where you can watch the evening sunsets.
"Many of our guests are walkers, which isn't surprising considering how close we are to the coast path. And we're more than happy to pick them up from the path after a day's walk for a small charge. For those without cars, we also provide a luggage transfer service to their next destination along the path. Many of our guests really appreciate the little coastal buses too - they are so convenient. We have all nationalities here too - Dutch, German, Mexican, Japanese, you name it. And quite a few of them are coming to the area to trace their family tree.
Ourselves, we've been here for over 40 years now. When we arrived the house was pretty near derelict, not much more than a roof and four walls. So we've had to do an awful lot of work. Interestingly many farms around here were named in pairs - so up the road is Penysgwarne Farm, which apparently comes from the Welsh 'pen ysgyfarnog', meaning 'head of the hare'. And Torbant comes from 'torri bant' - 'to cut off'!
Originally we ran it as a dairy farm but gave that up some years ago and concentrated on the B&B business. I was trained in catering and I like to think our breakfasts are something to remember. If guests just want a light continental style breakfast that's fine. Or I provide a full cooked breakfast using local produce, with fresh farm eggs from our own hens, home made marmalade - and fish too if you want. There are some lovely places to eat around here too. Two of our favourites are the Wolf's castle and The Shed at Porthgain which does fantastic fish dishes - all locally caught. Porthgain itself is certainly well worth a visit too. The history of the place is absolutely fascinating.
Naturally, we recycle all we can and make some lovely rich compost for the garden. We had the house fully double glazed a few years ago and we're thinking about solar panels for the water. Torbant is very much a family home and that's what our guests like about it I think. The grandchildren are often around and they're not shy about saying hello. Pembrokshire is such a lovely place to bring children up - all this fresh air and a wonderful environment, what could be better?"
