Cefn-y-Dre dates back to 1512 and stands high on a hill above Fishguard. It's listed as one of the Historic Homes of Pembrokeshire and has links to Lloyd George who was a frequent visitor in the early 20th century. Nowadays Cefn-y-dre offers country house bed and breakfast accommodation of the highest quality. The rooms were completely refurbished in June 2005 by the present owners Gaye Williams and Geoff Stickler.
"When Gaye and I discovered Cefn-y-Dre, we were totally enchanted. And I hope you will be too. It's such a lovely house, in what we think is the most marvellous county. For us, Pembrokeshire has everything we could ever wish for.
The house, now fully restored has beautifully proportioned large rooms, with every home comfort, including DVD and Freeview! But I think it's the sense of history and sheer tranquillity of the house and its surroundings that you will enjoy most. The daughter of one of the early owners of the house married Lloyd George's brother and we have a photograph of Lloyd George at their wedding reception on the lawn in front of the house. In fact one of the rooms was regularly used by Lloyd George himself.

There are magnificent grounds with views across to the Preseli Hills. The one and a half acre garden includes a Pembrokeshire walled kitchen garden which was completely overgrown when we bought the house, including an old Victorian greenhouse buried under brambles. Now it produces enough fruit and vegetable to keep us virtually self-sufficient. And we supplement that with organic eggs and beautiful locally produced meat for our guests. You certainly appreciate what real food tastes like when it's on your plate only a few minutes after being picked in the garden! Cefn-y-Dre is also one of the very few small B&Bs that has a licence.
The bottles of course are all recycled as is everything else that can be. We're looking at solar heating too for the future and possibly wind generation. We've introduced a number of nesting boxes into the garden and there's always plenty of wildlife to be seen, including Emperor Dragonflies down by the pond.
These amazing creatures have a wing span of four inches - a spectacular sight. But then Pembrokeshire of course is full of spectacular sights. We're looking at developing weekend breaks tied in with a specific interest such as archaeological tours of interesting sites, or perhaps with local music festivals such as the St David's and Fishguard Festivals But whether you come to go walking, bird watching, or just to enjoy the scenery, you'll be very welcome at Cefn-y-Dre."
