Just a few miles north-west of the tiny city of St Davids is this dramatic headland with views out over Ramsey Island and the Bishops and Clerks. The peak of Carn Llidi is close by and overlooks the lovely Whitesands Bay. Most of the headland is owned by the National Trust and is open access land.

What's there?

Perhaps one of the best examples of coastal heathland restoration has been taking place here for the last decade with fantastic resultsCommon Heather.

Coupled to this active management is the already rich heathland on the higher sections of Carn Llidi. The spring flowers and then autumn heather mean that almost throughout the whole spring and summer there is a carpet of colour around the headland.

Heather in August

It is one of the best places to see Stonechats and Peregrines but looking out to sea it is also one of the best places in Pembrokeshire to see Porpoise  and Common Dolphins and in the late summer and early autumn a prime spot for watching the streams of Manx Shearwaters passing in the early evening as they head back to their breeding colonies on Skokholm and Skomer.

When to Visit?

Almost at any time through the year a visit to this area will be richly rewarded but the late summer is perhaps the best when the heather is in flower and the Porpoise are at their most numerous.
