Every year when Summer ends and most of the visitors disappear I have two conflicting feelings. On one level I am shocked because it happens so suddenly and I enjoy meeting all the people, and on another I am surprised, for Solva is beautiful all the year round and deserves to be seen in Winter as well as in Summer.

We had been Christmas shopping in Haverfordwest and got to the top of Solva hill to find at least twenty cars lurking on the brink contemplating the ‘slide’ down the hill in the freshly fallen snow.   I can see that it could feel risky but the gritter was in front of me and I followed it down.

Solva in the snowI always carry a camera and so I quickly parked the car leaving the shopping to its chances, donned Wellington boots and rushed off into the woods and round by the harbour whilst the snow was cotton wool white and freshly fallen.   It was spellbinding.  The sky too with its threatening dark beauty was a wonderful backdrop to the streaks of sunlight filtering through onto the stone built harbour walls and reflecting off the snow blanketed roofs.  Mesmerising but soon gone as darkness began to fall I wanted everyone to have those precious moments I was so grateful for.  Pembrokeshire at it most different imprinting the wild beauty of moment in mid-winter.
