The Preseli Mountains rise to 540 feet at their highest point, the summit of Foel Cwmcerwyn. The landscape of the Preselis is one of unenclosed moorland that is rich with the remains of prehistoric activity.

The main ridge has been a routeway since the Bronze Age; on the surrounding hills burial mounds and standing stones from this period can still be seen.

Gors Fawr Standing Stone Pair

 

The defences of impressive Iron Age hillforts can be visited on Foel Drygarn and Carn Alw.

Carnalw defended enclosure
The rocky outcrop of Carnalw forms the eastern side of the defence and overlooks the interior of this Iron Age enclosure on the northern slopes of the Preselis. Back to map
