East Blockhouse
This strategic site has traces of defences dating back over 400 years.
On the promontory are the remains of one of a pair of small artillery blockhouses built either side of the harbour entrance in Tudor times. Called East Blockhouse, it is now an almost total ruin. More recent military installations nearby include gun and searchlight emplacements built in 1904 and during the Second World War and a disused LORAN wireless navigation station.
