St Michael & All Angels Church

The Church of St. Michael and All Angels is said to have been built in the late 13th century on the site of an earlier church.

St. Michael & all angelsAmongst medieval features are the font and the stone tomb under the South Transept window. It was restored by Lord Cawdor in 1855. The Cawdor coat of arms figures in the tiling of the Chancel and Sanctuary floor. The East window was erected in memory of the Revd. William Allen, Rector 1831-72, the Transept windows in memory of the Ven. David Edward Williams (1913-20), and the Squint and West window in memory of the husband and father of a former school mistress.

In the churchyard a preaching cross stands on three masonry steps. It is suggested (Dr. Sian Rees) that the head of the cross and the shaft originally belonged to two different structures. There is a human face 'presumably representing Christ'.
