The earliest record of the Tucker family here dates from 1405 1407. In the 1700s Admiral Thomas Tucker captured a Spanish treasure ship in the West Indies, and was awarded substantial prize money that enabled him to buy further property in the area. The breed of dog known as the Sealyham terrier was developed here during the 1800s by Captain Jack Edwardes, for hunting badgers. Today the mansion is run as an outdoor activity centre.
