Lime Quarries and Kilns

George Owen recorded in 1603 that limestone had been 'anciently digged' in Lampeter Velfrey.

Limekiln LampeterLimekiln

Two massive limekilns stand on either side of Sarel. There used to be another, opposite the small quarry above Lampeter House. Near the entrance by Greenvale was a weighbridge for the loads of lime and stone, which were hauled along rails. There were more limekilns near Llanmill.
