Earwear & Amroth Castle
Earwear was the seat of the Elliott family from the mid 15th century to 1756. In 1670 it had 5 hearths. Before the end of the 18th century it had been sold to James Ackland who built the castellated house which came to be called Amroth Castle.

He died in 1820 and further changes followed. Near the close of the 19th century the castle was bought by Owen Cosby Philipps. Owen Cosby Philipps was created Lord Kylsant in 1923. When Lord Kylsant moved away, his eldest daughter, Lady Deerhurst, took up residence with her husband and family. When he became Earl of Coventry, they moved to the family seat near Worcester. The Earl was killed during the 1939-45 War. Local reminiscences recall social activities of this period linked with the Castle families, and work provided for local people.
